My hard drive is about to die, again. If I turn it on while on a flat surface, its good to go, but if I pick it up, it drive starts making lots of noise. I've saved all data and I'm ready to replace it (out of warranty). Its a Toshiba MK6022GAX (60GB 5400rpm), which is ATA-5. I'm seeing lots of new drives that are ATA-6. Can I buy an ATA-6 drive for the NP5680? Also, I would like to get at leat an 80GB this time.

The ATA-6 will work, but you will have to test to see if the BIOS will run it at that speed. The difference in speed will not really be noticable, so it won't really matter.

It should be no problem accepting an 80GB drive.

No problems here. I just upgraded the hard drive on my 5680 yesterday. I installed this drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146047

Sweet upgrade. I'm very happy with the performance. I also took the time to clean the heat sink and remove the old thermal and apply Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste to the CPU.

NOTE: If you remove the heat sink, plan for the CPU chip to follow, it did for me. Just plan ahead for this possibility. I was wearing latex gloves when it happened. Hey, I was at the fire station, we have 1,000's of gloves. Wink
