Folks - here's the system... happens intermittently either when coming out of standby or when powering up ... system is getting power, Blue power light is on, and led lights under the screen are on, HOWEVER...

1. no display on screen ... just blackness
2. no display in the CD "jukebox" area

To "cure" i have to hard boot down, power up ...sometimes MULTIPLE times and finally I will get my display and all seems well.

Any ideas as to what's going on? Sounds like I need to send this 9860 to Sager for repair. Their techs suggest "maybe" a memory RAM problem, but I don't see how that makes sense. To me, it's behaving like a loose connections somewhere or a power supply problem.

Has anyone had this problem before?

talked to David at Sager ... 90% chance it is a failed motherboard. That SUCKS! This will my 2nd replaced MOB in 1.7 years.

Wow .... not too good.

Hey all ... got my 9860 back today. took it in monday, it's now thursday. GREAT TURN AROUND time and this is thanks to Donald, the owner of Powernotebooks.com who interceded for me w/ Sager. Since I was out of warranty, their policy is that warranty work gets done first and it could take 10 business days or more to get mine fixed. Well it took only 4 and I credit Donald with this.

I have a 9890 motherboard, but elected to keep my 6800Go GPU. Why? Well the 7900 card was another $500 or so and I'm saving up to get a new Merom lappy when they come out. You can bet I will get it through Powernotebooks.

Had to do a repair install of Windows. Not sure what Sager did to my OS, but it was hosed. No problem though, it was just a repair install so lost no data. The weird thing though is that I couldn't use my Acronis backups. I wonder if the bad MOB caused weirdness before I took the lappy in for service. Oh well, all seems well ... for now

I have the same problem. My 9860 is out of warranty, so I attempted to figure out the problem and noticed that the fans have trouble starting up, which might have led to a cpu failure. I was going to try a CPU replacement, but it's just a guess as I have no other machine to test the CPU in. Another possibly related problem is that the battery would never charge up, ever since I owned the thing, but I never did get it fixed figuring a power failure killed it somehow. But this problem has been intermittant, and now has gotten so bad that the computer fails to start 90% of the time.
The jukebox led sometimes came on, and sometimes didnt, and the cd light would activate a few times, and the power button light comes one, but nothing else happens. Do you remember what they did to fix it? If so, what was the cost?

The better way to approach a solution is to use your Lifetime 24/7 Telephone tech support...For Sager models call 877-774-1911

They had to replace the entire motherboard. I got a 9890 motherboard, but kept my Nvidia 6800 GPU and wireless card. I suspect that these newer motherboards are more "error free".

Just a hunch. I'm confident you need a new MOB
