LCD Resolution (is higher really better?) and DPI Calculator
There are a lot of LCD sizes and resolutions. Which one is right for you?
Everyone has their own individual tastes and needs. Some people prefer
really high resolutions with a lot of desktop area for many windows, while
other people prefer lower resolutions so the text is bigger and easier to
read. The table provided at the link below gives relative sizing information
so you can estimate which resolutions on which screen sizes you'd prefer.
When looking at the table, it helps to have an idea of at least one screen
size and resolution combination that you like, so check your current setup
to make sure you know what screen size you have and what resolution you are
currently using.

What makes a good LCD screen? This may surprise you.
The screen is the main feedback to the user that any computer provides. The better the screen, the better and more productive your experience with the computer is likely to be. Many things factor into LCD screen quality, such as response time, contrast ratio, brightness, and viewing angles. The LCD Guide linked below describes the difficulties with interpreting screen specifications and what to look for in a good screen that works well for you. One thing to note is that the author doesn't touch on resolution at all. That is because a higher resolution screen does not mean the screen is better quality. Many people have confused screen resolution with screen quality, but the two are separate issues.
